System Moving the Goalposts: SCOTUS Strips Papers from Haitians and Syrians
In a series of brutal 6-3 decisions, the high court just gave feds the green light to physically block asylum seekers and deport green card holders.

The system is showing its true colors once again, and this time they aren't even trying to hide it. In a series of cold-blooded 6-3 rulings, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court just gave the administration the green light to do whatever they want to immigrants, especially people of color. They are tearing up agreements, shutting down borders, and making it so even folks with green cards aren't safe from getting kicked out.
First, they went after the TPS program. For over ten years, hundreds of thousands of people from Haiti and Syria have been living here legally, paying taxes, building lives, and doing things the right way because their home countries are war zones or destroyed by disasters. On Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that the administration can just strip that status away. Just like that, years of hard work don't mean nothing, and these families are facing getting sent back to danger.
Then they made it so feds can literally stand on the border line between the US and Mexico and physically block people trying to ask for asylum. Under this "metering" policy, if you can’t even put a foot down on US soil, you can’t ask for help. It’s a dirty trick to bypass international law, and the Supreme Court just gave it their blessing. Desperate families running from violence are getting turned away at the gates without even a chance to speak.
But the wildest part? On Tuesday, the court ruled that border officials have broad power to deport lawful permanent residents—we're talking about people who already have their green cards. If you think having your papers means you're safe, think again. The feds now have the discretion to snatch up legal residents and ship them out, showing that in the eyes of this system, immigrants are always second-class.
To make matters worse, there's another major decision coming down soon on birthright citizenship. The administration wants to stop giving automatic citizenship to babies born in the US if their parents are temporary visitors or undocumented. If the court rules with the administration on that one, they are going to strip the rights of thousands of kids born right here on US soil.
People have been calling out this administration for straight-up racism, pointing to all the wild stuff the President has said. But the court's majority is acting blind to it. On the exact same day they stripped TPS, Justice Samuel Alito wrote that when the President called Haiti a "shithole country" and said immigrants are "poisoning the blood" of America, it didn't prove the actual policies were racist. That’s real-life gaslighting from the highest court in the land.
