Wild Scene in Longview: Mob Out Here Jumping Random People and Screaming 'Free Karmelo'
A young woman gets set up and brutally beaten in a senseless parking lot ambush over a high school track meet murder case she had nothing to do with.
You really can't even go out for a peaceful night with your friends anymore without some wild drama spilling onto the streets. Over the weekend down in Longview, Texas, a young woman ended up in the hospital with a black eye, a head full of surgical staples, and blood all over her clothes after getting jumped by a group of females who were completely out of pocket.
According to the streets and the police, the victim and her friend were just walking back to their car after getting some drinks. Out of nowhere, this group of women steps to her and starts putting hands on her. No warning, no beef, nothing. The victim said she didn’t even look at these girls or say a word to them. To make it even more grimy, the attackers reportedly admitted they targeted her because she was "the smallest white girl they could find," choosing an easy target just to make a violent point.
While they were jumping her, the group was screaming "Free Karmelo," trying to tie their cowardly attack to a major court case that’s been dividing the community. But let's keep it real: taking out your frustration on a random person in a parking lot is never the move, and it definitely isn't going to get anybody out of jail. All it did was get one of the attackers locked up, as Longview Police confirmed they already bagged one suspect with more arrests likely on the way.
For those who don't know the backstory, "Karmelo" refers to Karmelo Anthony, who is currently locked down doing 35 years for murder. Anthony was convicted after he stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf to death during a high school track meet. That situation was already tragic enough, tearing apart families and leaving the local youth traumatized, but now the fallout is spilling over into random street violence.
Things got even hotter on Monday when some heavy-hitter legal teams, including Ben Crump’s famous civil rights law firm, announced they are jumping on Karmelo’s case to appeal his 35-year sentence. When big-name lawyers from out of town get involved, the hype machine starts rolling, and people on the streets start acting up, thinking they’re fighting for a cause when they're really just catching assault charges.
The victim’s dad spoke out, saying his daughter is still messed up over the whole situation but wanted her story out there so people know what’s really happening on these streets. It’s a sad state of affairs when you can't even walk to your ride without getting caught in the crossfire of someone else's legal battle and political agendas.
At the end of the day, the community is tired of the senseless violence. Screaming "Free Karmelo" while giving a random girl head injuries doesn't do anything but put another person in a casket or a jail cell. If people want real justice, they need to let the lawyers handle the courtroom while keeping the neighborhood safe for regular folks just trying to live their lives.
