They Playin' Our Kids: SEND Report Exposes Education System's Failures
Real talk: The system ain't built for our youth wit' special needs, and this survey proves it, leavin' fams stressed and feelin' left out in the cold.

Aight, listen up. This new report 'bout special ed in England droppin' some hard truths, and it ain't lookin' good for our peoples. The Parent Voice Project put out this survey, 'How Schools Work for Every Child,' and it's showin' that if your kid got special needs but ain't got that EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), you're basically gettin' the short end of the stick.
For real, the survey hit up over 6,000 parents, and the numbers don't lie. Only 57% of parents wit' SEND kids but no EHCP feel like their school's education is on point. Compare that to the 68% of parents whose kids do have EHCPs, and the 71% of parents wit' regular kids. See the difference? It's a whole different ballgame.
Now, what's an EHCP? It's like a legal shield for your child's education. It's supposed to lay out all the help your kid needs – from extra tutoring to therapy – and make sure the school provides it. But gettin' one of these plans is a whole struggle. Red tape for days, and they tryin' to cut 'em back even more by 2035.
The government's talkin' 'bout makin' schools more 'inclusive' for SEND kids, but how's that gonna work when these same schools don't even got the resources to support regular kids? The survey shows only 52% of all parents think teachers got the right tools to deal wit' SEND. But if your kid ain't got no EHCP, that number drops to 38%! That's straight-up disrespect.
This ain't just 'bout gettin' good grades, neither. It's 'bout makin' sure our kids feel supported, understood, and valued. When they constantly strugglin' and ain't gettin' the help they need, it messes wit' they heads. They start thinkin' they ain't good enough, that they stupid, that they don't belong.
One momma from Weston-super-Mare said it best: ain't nobody thinkin' 'bout these kids 'til it's a crisis. You gotta fight every step of the way just to get your child the basic support they deserve. It's exhausting, it's frustrating, and it's straight-up wrong.
Meanwhile, the government wanna focus on school attendance, tryna hit some crazy 94% target. But who cares 'bout attendance when the schools ain't even meetin' the needs of our kids? Parents is worried 'bout underfunding, behavior problems, and the mental health of they kids, not whether they sittin' in a classroom that's failin' 'em.
We gotta hold these schools and politicians accountable. They need to put they money where they mouth is and invest in our kids. That means more funding for special ed programs, better training for teachers, and easier access to EHCPs. We can't let these kids get left behind. It's time to rise up, speak out, and demand the education our children deserve. Period.
