Supreme Court Say Dude On Death Row Can Check If Jury Was Racist. Bout Time.
Terry Pitchford, locked up since '06 for killin' a shopkeeper, finally gettin' a chance to say jury selection was rigged.
Aight, so check it. The Supreme Court, after all this time, finally gon' let Terry Pitchford, dude been on death row since '06, see if his jury was straight up racist. He got popped for murkin' a shopkeeper, and the jury that put him away had only one Black face. One. Outta twelve. That ain't right.
This ain't just about Pitchford. It's about how the system always been playin' dirty. They sayin' he can challenge 'cause the Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments supposed to guarantee a fair trial and equal protection. But we know how that go. 'Equal' ain't always equal for us.
This all stemmin' from that Batson v. Kentucky case, sayin' prosecutors can't just kick Black folks off the jury 'cause they Black. But them devils always find a way, ya feel me? They come up with some BS reason, like, 'He looked at me funny,' or 'She seemed hostile.' Straight clown sh*t.
Look, we know how this works. System designed to lock us up. They stack the deck from the jump. From the police harassin' us to the judges lookin' down on us, ain't nothin' fair. Jury selection just one more way they cheat.
Now, this don't mean Pitchford gettin' out. It just mean he get a chance to show they played him. He gotta prove they deliberately kept Black folks off that jury. That ain't easy, but it's a start.
This sh*t bigger than one case. It's about all the brothers and sisters locked up 'cause the system ain't never been on our side. It's about fightin' for justice, even when it seem like ain't no hope.
So, yeah, I'm glad Pitchford gettin' a shot. But I ain't holdin' my breath. System ain't gon' change overnight. We gotta keep pushin', keep fightin', keep callin' out the BS. 'Cause ain't nobody gon' do it for us.
This decision allows Terry Pitchford to fight his conviction by challenging the racial makeup of his jury, highlighting the systemic racism in the justice system that disproportionately affects Black people.
