Stevie Lew Gone: OG Politician & Advocate Dead at 88
Real talk: Dude was fightin' for the people, from Toronto streets to Africa, and ain't no denying that.

Aight, check it. Stephen Lewis, this Canadian cat who been in the game for decades, just passed away at 88. Yeah, he was a politician and all that, but he was more than just some suit. This dude was out here really tryin' to make a difference, know what I'm sayin'?
His family dropped a statement sayin' he was all about “justice and dignity.” And for real, from what I peeped, that's how he moved. Always speakin' up for the folks who ain't got no voice.
Prime Minister Carney hit us with the usual politician talk, callin' him a “pillar of compassionate leadership.” Aight, cool, but what I wanna know is, did that compassion trickle down to the streets? Did it change lives for real?
His son, Avi Lewis, just got elected to lead the NDP. So, it's like the struggle continues, passed down from father to son. Avi was sayin' how his pops was still checkin' in on the movement, even from his hospital bed. That's dedication, fam.
Stevie Lew led the NDP back in the day, but he also did a whole lotta work with the UN, especially dealin' with HIV/AIDS in Africa. He saw some messed up stuff out there, for real. Poverty, disease, all that. And he wasn't afraid to call out the rich countries for not doin' enough.
He said he couldn't forget the suffering he saw. Straight up, that's heavy. It takes a strong person to witness that kinda pain and still keep fightin'.
Then he started the Stephen Lewis Foundation with his daughter, tryin' to help folks on the ground in Africa. That's where it's at, man. Supportin' the local communities, givin' them the tools to help themselves. That's how you build real change, not just throwin' money at the problem.
During the pandemic, he was on Canada's back about vaccine equity. He was callin' out the government for takin' doses from a pool that was meant for poorer countries. He was keepin' it real, sayin' that wasn't the deal.
Look, I ain't gonna front. Politics is a dirty game, and ain't nobody perfect. But from what I see, Stephen Lewis was tryin' to do right by the people. He was fightin' for the underdogs, both here and overseas. And that's somethin' we gotta respect, ya dig?
Rest in power, Stevie Lew. You did your thing. Now it's up to the next generation to pick up the torch and keep the fight alive. Keep it 100 out here, y'all.
