Real Talk: Why Black Folks in the UK Keep Strokin' Out
The system ain't built for us, and these health disparities ain't no accident.

Aight, listen up. This ain't no surprise to nobody who's been payin' attention. These folks across the pond in England? They got the same problems we got right here in the States. This study droppin' facts that Black people are twice as likely to have strokes? That's just confirmation of what we already know.
They talkin' 'bout this study from King's College London, sayin' it's the biggest one of its kind. Okay, cool. But the numbers don't lie. We ain't gettin' the same care, and we ain't livin' the same kinda lives. Straight up.
They sayin' stroke rates went down for a bit, then shot back up. Guess who got hit the hardest? Us. Black Africans and Caribbeans are gettin' stroked out at twice the rate of white folks. What's new?
Now, they wanna talk 'bout high blood pressure and diabetes. Yeah, we got that. But why? Is it just 'cause we eatin' bad? Nah, it's deeper than that. It's the stress of dealin' with racism every day. It's the lack of access to good food and healthcare in our neighborhoods. It's the system stackin' the deck against us from the jump.
This Dr. Camila Pantoja-Ruiz, she tryna say it's 'cause of the COVID pandemic. She ain't wrong, that sht messed everything up. But that's just makin' a bad situation worse. This sht was already happenin' before the 'rona came along.
And then they hit you with the classic: 'racism, unconscious bias, and socioeconomic circumstances.' Word. That's the code for 'the system is rigged.' They know what's up, but they ain't gonna say it plain. They gotta dress it up in fancy words.
They also sayin' Black stroke survivors ain't gettin' the follow-up care they need. No surprise there. They try to patch you up and send you on your way. Ain't nobody checkin' to see if you straight. And we gettin' these strokes 10-12 years younger than white folks. That's messed up.
Maeva May from the Stroke Association, she sayin' the right things, but we need action, not just words. We need real change. We need access to healthcare, education, and opportunities. We need to tear down these systems that are keepin' us down. 'Til then, we just gonna keep strokin' out, and they gonna keep writin' studies. Wake up, y'all.
