Ofcom New Boss? More Like New Puppet for the Man
Cheshire steps in, but will he really protect us from the internet wild west, or just be another suit doin' the government's dirty work?

So, dis Ian Cheshire cat, used to run Channel 4, now he runnin' Ofcom. Word on the street is he gotta deal with all kinda stuff, from phone lines to TV, but the real drama is the Online Safety Act (OSA). This jawn supposed to be keepin' us safe online, but is it really for the people, or just another way for the Man to control what we see?
Ofcom been around for a minute, but now wit' the internet blowin' up, they gotta police all kinda things. Social media, fake news, all dat. But who decides what's real and what's fake? And who lookin' out for the little guy when these big companies start playin' foul?
The OSA passed last year, sayin' it's gon' regulate social media. But folks like Ian Russell, his daughter gone 'cause of some messed up online stuff, he want even tougher rules. Some sayin' dat too much, dat it step on our freedom of speech. So where the balance at?
Tech Secretary Liz Kendall already on Ofcom case, tellin' em to hurry up wit' the OSA. Dey movin' slow, but quick to try and age-gate everything. Like puttin' up a fence gon' keep kids out the yard. Dey need real solutions, not just security theater.
Ofcom been 'round, overseein' TV and mail and whatnot. But now it's all about the net. How dey gon' protect us from scams, hate, and all the BS dat be spreadin' online? It's a whole new ballgame.
The guv'ment want Ofcom to step it up, but dey got a whole lotta other stuff on dey plate. And wit' Elon Musk's AI tool Grok causin' trouble, testin' da waters wit some sus stuff, Ofcom gotta show dey not playin'.
Ofcom got a plan for '26/'27, talkin' 'bout stoppin' bad content from spreadin' and keepin' kids safe. But we seen dese plans before. How we know dis ain't just talk? How we know dey ain't gon' be targetin' the wrong people?
And don't forget the lawsuits holdin' up action against Google and Instagram. These big companies, dey always findin' ways to get around the rules. How Ofcom gon' keep 'em in check?
The internet be a wild place, full of misinformation and straight-up lies. Cheshire walkin' into a mess, and he gotta figure out how to clean it up without steppin' on our toes. The real question: Is he down for the people, or just another pawn in the game?
