Minnesota Dems Wildin' Out, Stagin' Sit-In Over Gun Bill
After school shootin' and nothin' changin', lawmakers takin' a stand fo' real.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Aight, so check it. Minnesota Democrats straight up had enough and started a sit-in at the State House Thursday night. Why? 'Cause the Republican speaker ain't tryna bring no gun violence prevention bill to a vote. This ain't no game, this real life. It all jumped off around 9 p.m., word on the street from the Minnesota Star Tribune.
This s*'s being led by Representative Samantha Sencer-Mura from Minneapolis. She gave Speaker Lisa Demuth, who runnin' fo' governor, a 24-hour ultimatum to get this bill on the floor. But nah, Demuth ain't budgin'. The Senate, they already passed the gun violence prevention bill earlier this month. But the House? They tied 67-67, and the Republican speaker ain't tryna hear nothin'.
This all started after that messed up shootin' at Annunciation Catholic Church last August. Two kids, Harper Moyski, 10, and Fletcher Merkel, 8, got took from this earth, and others got hurt. State lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her man got killed too, plus lawmaker John Hoffman and his wife got shot up. The parents of Harper and other students been on that pressure, tryin' to get these laws changed.
What's in this bill? They talkin' 'bout bannin' them military-style assault weapons and large-capacity magazines. They wanna regulate how folks store their guns, ban them ghost guns, and change them risk protection orders. Plus, schools gonna get them threat reporting systems, all that. Gotta protect the kids, ya dig?
Sencer-Mura gave 'em a deadline, 5 p.m. Thursday. They ain't do s*, so they started the sit-in. She said they stayin' overnight. Local news sayin' 'bout 20 Dems on board. Sencer-Mura be like, "What speaker Lisa Demuth so afraid of? She breakin' her promise to the Annunciation families, tellin' me she scared it gonna pass." She ain't wrong.
Folks delivered a petition with over 7,000 signatures from Everytown, tryin' to get this bill passed. Students and survivors been at the capitol all day, talkin' to lawmakers. All week, they been doin' events, tryin' to get attention to this, like doctors showin' what a gunshot wound do. Governor Tim Walz, he with 'em on this.
Demuth, she sayin' gun bans ain't the answer. She said her kids was at a school shootin' back in 2003. She say, "This ain't gonna bring these kids back." But what is the answer then? These lawmakers out here takin a stand for their community.
It’s about time somebody did somethin'. They gotta listen to the streets. No justice, no peace. Period.
