Louisiana Trippin': GOP Playin' Dirty With Congressional Map, Messin' With Black Votes
After that Supreme Court BS, Louisiana lawmakers done redrew the map to knock out a Black district and give the Reps more power, straight up.

Aight, so peep this. Louisiana lawmakers just pulled a fast one, straight up outta pocket. They done passed a new congressional map that gets rid of one of the two majority-Black districts in the state. This ain't no accident, fam. This is straight-up voter suppression, plain and simple.
After that messed up Supreme Court ruling – the one where they basically said it's cool to gerrymander as long as you don't explicitly say you're tryna screw over Black folks – the Republican-controlled legislature jumped at the chance to mess with the map. Governor Jeff Landry, he the ringleader in this whole circus, even delayed the primary elections to make sure they could get this shady stuff done. Real slick, huh?
Now, that district they got rid of? It stretched from Baton Rouge to Shreveport. It was supposed to be there to make sure Black folks had a voice in Congress. 'Cause you know, we make up like a third of the whole state's population. But nah, the GOP can't have that. Gotta keep us down, gotta keep us quiet.
Landry tryna act like he all for 'equality' and sayin' "The best way to end race-based discrimination is to stop making decisions based on race." But we ain't stupid. We see what's goin' on. This ain't about equality, it's about power. It's about makin' sure the Republicans stay in charge, even if it means steppin' on our necks to do it.
The new map puts most of New Orleans and some of the Black neighborhoods in Baton Rouge in one district. On paper, it still majority Black but this aint a win. It concentrates Black voting power in one district, diminishing the impact in surrounding districts. Division tactics, straight from the playbook.
Rep. Cleo Fields, he represents that Baton Rouge district right now. He been fightin' the good fight for years, but this new map? It's gonna make it a whole lot harder. And Rep. Troy Carter, from New Orleans, he gonna have to deal with this mess too. They gonna need all the support they can get.
Some of them Republicans even wanted to go full-on crazy and make sure the GOP won every congressional district in Louisiana. But they backed down, probably 'cause they were scared of makin' things too obvious. But this one district? It's enough to give them another seat in Congress. Which is exactly what they wanted.
Louisiana ain't the only one doin' this, either. Tennessee already got rid of its Black district in Memphis, and Alabama's followin' suit. Georgia and Mississippi are next. This is a coordinated attack on Black voting rights, across the whole South. This country keeps showin' its true colors, and they ain't pretty.
