Louisiana Republicans Playin' Dirty, Tryna Block Black Man From Runnin' Sh*t
They done took away the job from Calvin Duncan 'fore he even got a chance to fix the system that failed him.

BATON ROUGE, La. – See, this some straight up BS. Louisiana Republicans done pulled a fast one, straight up takin' away the elected spot from my man Calvin Duncan 'fore he could even get his feet wet. Governor Jeff Landry, that Republican dude, low-key signed some law to get rid of the Clerk of Criminal Court job in Orleans Parish, according to the Louisiana secretary of state spokesperson, Trey Williams. This ain't about efficiency, this 'bout keepin' a Black man down.
Calvin Duncan, he ain't no scrub. He did damn near 30 years for somethin' he didn't even do. Then he comes out and wins the election for Clerk of Court, tryin' to fix the system that messed him up. But the Republicans ain't havin' it. They claimin' it's 'bout savin' money and makin' things run smoother. Nah, it's 'bout power and keepin' the status quo.
Them Democrats, they callin' it government overreach, sayin' it's disrespectin' the votes in a Black city. You already know how it go. They tryna say this consolidation gonna save money. They gon consolidate the civil and criminal court clerks’ offices in New Orleans, bringin' it in line with other parishes in Louisiana, which have a single clerk’s office. The civil clerk position will remain and absorb the criminal clerk’s role. But real talk, it’s just a power move.
Now, a judge done stepped in and said, 'Hold up, this ain't right,' and gave Duncan a temporary pass to do his job. Duncan said he was happy that “the people’s right to vote is being honored.” But you know they gonna fight it. Landry and the Attorney General, Liz Murrill, they can take it to the US fifth circuit court, which is known to be mad conservative.
Duncan and his crew sayin' he gettin' targeted by them Republicans who still hatin' on him, even though he been proven innocent. They on some real hater sh*t. One of the Louisiana state reps, Mandie Landry, callin' the move “atrocious” and worryin' 'bout what it means for other elected officials. She not related to the Guv, btw. The legislation consolidates the civil and criminal court clerks’ offices in New Orleans, bringin' it in line with other parishes in Louisiana, which have a single clerk’s office.
This all boils down to power and control. They see a Black man comin' up, tryin' to make a difference, and they can't stand it. They gon' do whatever they can to keep him down, even if it means playin' dirty. They're shifting about $1.17 million in state expenditures to the parish, while eliminating the clerk position saves the state about $27,000 and the city $233,000.
