Happy Gone: Zoo Elephant's Death Got Folks Talkin' 'Bout Animal Rights, But Real Talk...
That elephant dying got everybody on some 'save the animals' tip, but what about folks in the hood?
Word on the street is Happy, that elephant from the Bronx Zoo, checked out. RIP to the big homie. All that noise 'bout her havin' 'human rights' and all that? Man, it got people heated. Activists was tryna free her, saying she deserved bodily liberty. The zoo was all, 'Nah, she good, we treat her right.'
But real talk, who was checkin' for us in the hood when they was worried 'bout an elephant? Ain't nobody suing for our bodily liberty when the cops harassin' us on the daily. Where the activists at when our schools underfunded and our jobs ain't payin' enough to feed our families?
Look, I ain't hatin' on animals, but priorities gotta be straight. We gotta take care of our own first. Happy livin' in a zoo might not be ideal, but at least she ain't gotta worry 'bout where her next meal comin' from. Some folks out here can't even say that much.
They was saying she's self-aware. Bruh, we been self-aware since day one. We know the system stacked against us. We know we gotta fight twice as hard to get half as much. But who fightin' for us?
The zoo saying she was well cared for is cap though. No cage is gonna feel like the wild. She couldn't roam free, she couldn't do what elephants do, she was just a spectacle for folks to gawk at. Now, the real question is, where the same energy for saving that elephant when our community centers get shut down?
This situation just highlights how the system works. They care more about animals, than their own people and its not even a new story. That's the reality for cats in the hood, they don't have the same opportunities and it's only getting worse.
Bottom line is, RIP Happy, but let's not forget about the struggles right here in our own communities. We gotta be our own saviors, 'cause ain't nobody else comin' to rescue us. We out here hustling to make it out the mud and we not getting any help.
So while they mourning an elephant, let's remember the real fight. It's not just about saving animals, it's about saving ourselves. Keep it 100.
