Fo' Real Tho: Dude Won Birthright Citizenship and His Own Fam Didn't Even Know?
Wong Kim Ark fought the system for all of us, but his family was sleep? That's messed up, fam.
Aight, listen up, y'all. This is some real talk. This cat named Wong Kim Ark, back in the day, he went to the Supreme Court and WON birthright citizenship for EVERYBODY born in this country. Straight up, a real OG. But guess what? His OWN family didn't even KNOW about it 'til like, 15 years ago. How messed up is that?
Back then, they had this thing called the Chinese Exclusion Act, tryin' to keep our folks out. Straight racism, no cap. They didn't want Chinese people comin' over here, takin' jobs, livin' the American dream. Sound familiar? Same game, different players.
Wong Kim Ark, he was born in the US, but they tried to say he wasn't a citizen 'cause his parents were Chinese. He said, "Nah, fam, Fourteenth Amendment! I was born here, I'm a citizen!" And he took that mess all the way to the Supreme Court.
And he WON. That's right, he beat the system. He made it so that if you're born in this country, you're a citizen, no matter what your parents' status is. That's a big deal. That's why a lot of y'all are here right now.
But the crazy part is, his own fam didn't even know! How you gon' be sleepin' on your own history like that? It just goes to show you how easy it is to forget where we came from, who fought for us, and what we had to go through.
That's why we gotta keep tellin' these stories. We gotta let our kids know about the struggles, the sacrifices, and the victories. We gotta keep the memory alive. 'Cause if we don't, who will?
This ain't just about Wong Kim Ark. It's about all the unsung heroes who paved the way for us. The folks who fought for civil rights, the folks who stood up against injustice, the folks who risked everything so we could have a better life. We gotta remember them all.
So next time you hear someone talkin' about immigration, or citizenship, or the Fourteenth Amendment, remember Wong Kim Ark. Remember that he fought for your rights. And remember that it's our responsibility to keep fightin' for those rights, for ourselves and for future generations.
Don't let nobody tell you that you don't belong here. This is your home. You were born here. You're a citizen. And you have the right to be here, just like everybody else.
Stay woke, y'all. And keep it 100.
Respect to Wong Kim Ark. A true OG.
Peace.
