Brisbane Stadium Gon' Build, Indigenous Voices Get Muted
Gov'ment says Olympics over everything, but what 'bout the people on the ground?

Brisbane, Australia – The feds done gave the green light to build that Olympic stadium in Victoria Park, even though folks been hollerin' 'bout it bein' sacred land to the Turrbal and Yagara peoples. Environment Minister Murray Watt ain't droppin' no emergency declaration, sayin' he gotta think 'bout “longer term protections.” Sounds like a whole lotta nothin' to me.
They talkin' 'bout bringin' the Olympics to Brisbane, but at what cost? They bulldozin' over history, over culture, over peoples' connection to the land. This ain't right, man. This ain't progress, this is straight-up disrespect.
Folks been out there protestin', tryin' to make they voices heard. Sue Bremner from Save Victoria Park said them fences goin' up got folks locked up on Friday. Five people snatched from the Goori Camp Embassy, just for standin' they ground. That's some BS right there.
Nurri Theresa Williams, she been puttin' in work to protect that site. She talkin' 'bout how that park is the last place where they people can gather in the whole Brisbane area. Talkin' 'bout birthing sites, burial sites, all tied up in that land. This ain't just dirt, this is family, this is heritage.
That Greens councillor Seal Chong Wah, callin' out the police for bein' heavy-handed. But the police do what they told. Protect the money, not the people.
Campbell Newman, that former premier, showin' up to act like he cares now. Gimme a break. He just tryna get some clout. All these politicians playin' games while our history gettin' washed away.
This stadium gon' be used for football and cricket after the Olympics. So what? Who benefitin' from that? Not the people who land gettin' took. Not the ones whose voices gettin' ignored. This whole thing stink, man.
They sayin' they gon' review further applications, see 'bout “longer term protections.” But that's just a smokescreen. The stadium gettin' built. The land gettin' paved over. And the Indigenous community gettin' the short end of the stick, once again.
This ain't just 'bout a stadium, this 'bout systemic oppression. This 'bout power and money runnin' over the little man. This 'bout the ongoing struggle for respect and recognition. Real talk.
So next time you see that stadium, remember what it cost. Remember the people who fought for that land. Remember the voices that gettin' drowned out. Keep it real, y'all.
