Anzac Day Drama: They Booed the Mob During Land Acknowledgement, Fo Real?
Heard some folks got checked for interrupting the Elder's welcome at them Anzac Day joints — what's the real?
Aight, so peep this: Anzac Day, right? Supposed to be 'bout respect for the soldiers and all that. But nah, some mess went down in three cities. Word on the street is folks started heckling when the Indigenous speakers came on to do the welcome to country thing. Straight up disrespect, fam.
For those who don't know, Anzac Day is like Australia's version of Memorial Day. They remember the ANZAC soldiers from way back when. But nowadays, they usually give a shoutout to the Aboriginal folks who were here first, you know, give credit where it's due.
But apparently, some people ain't feeling that. They see it as some kinda woke agenda or somethin'. Like giving props to the original owners of the land is somehow disrespecting the soldiers. That's some backwards thinking, I'm sayin'.
Now, I ain't gonna lie, Australia's got a whole history of straight up jacking from the Aboriginal community. Land, culture, you name it. So, the welcome to country is like a small way of acknowledging that, even if it's just for show.
But to go out there and boo them Elders? That's just low. It's like showing up to somebody's funeral and clowning. Ain't no respect.
Some folks say it's 'cause they tired of hearing about Indigenous issues. Like, “We get it, y'all were here first, now shut up and let us celebrate our holiday.” But that's the problem, innit? They don't wanna acknowledge the past, they just wanna pretend everything's all good.
This ain't just about Anzac Day, tho. It's about how Australia still ain't dealt with its colonial past. They wanna act like everything's peachy keen, but the Aboriginal community still facing mad struggles. Disproportionate arrests, poverty, all that. It's a system, man.
So, what's the solution? I don't know, man. But it starts with listening. Listening to the Elders, listening to the community, and acknowledging the truth. Can't heal if you ain't willing to face the pain. Real talk.
This whole situation just shows that Australia got a long way to go when it comes to race relations. They gotta stop pretending the past ain't real and start dealing with it for real, for real.
Maybe then, they can have a real celebration without all the drama. But until then, it's gonna be more of the same. Disrespect, denial, and a whole lotta BS.
It's a whole vibe of disrespect and historical ignorance playing out on a national stage.
Ya'll gotta keep it 100 and acknowledge the history before trying to celebrate the present.
