U of O Trippin', Rushing ICE Alerts 'Cause Rich Kids Cryin'
University of Oregon jumps the gun on ICE alerts after pressure from privileged students, but what about the real issues facing the community?

Aight, so check it: University of Oregon done lost they damn minds. They rushin' to put up ICE alerts 'cause a bunch of bougie kids got they feelings hurt? Nah, that ain't it, fam. This whole situation got me heated, and I gotta break it down for y'all.
So, basically, Oregon passed a law sayin' schools gotta let folks know if ICE is around. Cool, right? But U of O, instead of chillin' till the deadline in September, decided to speed things up 'cause some student groups started hollerin'. DSA and Anti-ICE Coalition? Sounds like a whole lotta privilege to me.
Dean Jimmy Howard sent out an email, all proud and stuff, 'bout how they listenin' to the community and doin' what's right. But let's keep it 100: this ain't about the whole community. This about pacifying a select few who got the resources and the time to be makin' noise. It's always the same song and dance with these institutions.
The Daily Emerald, the school paper, runnin' with the story like it's the second comin'. Bet they ain't talkin' 'bout the real struggles folks facin' on the daily. You know, the stuff that ain't gettin' retweeted by the woke crowd. Gotta get them clicks, tho!
A university spokesperson said they already alertin' folks 'bout law enforcement activity. But ICE is different, right? 'Cause it affects them precious students who probably never had to worry 'bout where they next meal comin' from. They are really doing the most.
See, what really grinds my gears is how these institutions bend over backwards for a certain type of student while ignorin' the needs of everyone else. Where's the alerts for police brutality? Where's the resources for students dealin' with food insecurity? Where the acknowledgement that racism is a 24/7 situation for black students on campus? They never speak up for those people.
This ain't about protectin' folks, it's about lookin' good. It's a performative act, designed to get U of O some woke points. Meanwhile, the real problems stay buried, and the students who really need help get left in the dust. Ain't nothin' changed, still the same old game.
They gonna put up these alerts, but is that gonna change anything? Is it gonna stop ICE from doin' what they do? Is it gonna make undocumented students feel any safer? I doubt it. It's just a band-aid on a bullet wound. What we really need is systemic change, not symbolic gestures.
So, yeah, U of O can pat themselves on the back for bein' so progressive. But until they start addressin' the root causes of inequality and oppression, it's all just smoke and mirrors. Keep it real, y'all. Don't let these institutions fool you with they performative woke-ness. We know the real score.
This whole situation just proves that these universities are all about optics. They'll jump at the chance to look good, but they won't actually address the real issues. Until they start prioritizing the needs of all students, especially the most vulnerable, they can miss me with the performative allyship.
At the end of the day, this ICE alert thing ain't gonna solve nothin'. It's a feel-good measure that doesn't address the underlying problems. The University of Oregon needs to do better, and they need to start listening to the voices that are actually being silenced.
