Trump Puts Businessman Chris Klomp in the HHS Co-Pilot Seat to Clean Up the Block
With RFK Jr. and Dr. Oz in the mix, Klomp is stepping up to handle the massive federal health budget and shut down the scammers.

Trump is shaking up the administrative block again, announcing on Thursday that he’s nominating Chris Klomp to be the next Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This wasn't a solo move, either—Trump made the play right alongside HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. Trump took to Truth Social to let everyone know that Klomp is a "potential STAR" and a "Highly Successful Entrepreneur" who actually knows how to run a massive operation and fix a broken system.
Klomp isn't new to this high-stakes game. He’s already holding down a whole stack of titles, working as the Chief Counselor of HHS, Deputy Administrator of CMS, Director of the Center for Medicare, and Senior Advisor to the Secretary. He's been running the day-to-day operations of Medicare, and Trump is basically saying the man has earned the trust to take over the whole building as the number-two guy.
Trump highlighted that Klomp's background in building a major private business gave him the muscle to push through some serious policy changes. He credited Klomp with driving the "Most Favored Nation" Drug Pricing Policy, which is all about stopping other countries from taking a free ride on the backs of American taxpayers. According to Trump, they put the pressure on foreign nations to pay their fair share, and as a result, domestic drug prices have come down massively over the past year.
But the real wild part of the story shows exactly why this agency needs a major cleanup. The Department of Justice (DOJ) just uncovered a massive $6.5 billion healthcare fraud scheme. Some heavy-duty scammers were literally taking taxpayer money meant for sick people and spending it on luxury mansions, high-end whips, and expensive jewelry. They were living the high life off the public's dime because the old-school auditing systems couldn't catch the play.
To stop these scammers from getting their pockets right off taxpayer money, HHS Assistant Secretary for Financial Services Gus Chiarello has had to bring in the big guns. He’s deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to detect these fraudulent patterns across the country. Chiarello made it clear that the old, archaic auditing methods just couldn't handle this level of hustling, and the new AI setup is all about securing those federal dollars before they walk out the door.
On top of the financial drama, the administration is also fighting some serious battles in court. An Obama-appointed judge recently stepped in to block the White House's big initiative to fight obesity. But the White House hit right back, warning that this judicial block is definitely not going to be the "final say" on their plans. They're making it clear that they aren't backing down from the fight.
Meanwhile, the court of public opinion is looking a little split. A recent Fox News poll shows that while regular folks are totally rocking with the administration's health policy goals, they still have a pretty negative view of RFK Jr. himself. But regardless of what the polls say, the leadership crew—Klomp, RFK Jr., and Dr. Oz—are staying locked in and moving as a unit, recently showing up together at a big event over at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
As Klomp heads toward his Senate confirmation, the pressure is on. He’s going from running Medicare to helping run the whole massive HHS operation. If he can bring that private-sector grit to the federal government and keep the scammers' hands out of the cookie jar, it could mean some real changes for the public health system. We’ll see if this new squad can actually deliver on their promises and keep it real for the people.
