They Tryna Take Our Voice: Mississippi Shows Out for Voting Rights
Folks in Jackson hit the streets 'cause these laws be tryna silence the Black vote, straight up.

Aight, so check it. Thousands of us showed up in Jackson, Mississippi, this week. Why? 'Cause they playin' games with our right to vote. They be at the War Memorial Building auditorium, where they brought the noise to let 'em know we ain't goin' back.
See, the Supreme Court done messed around and made a decision that's gonna let these states water down our power at the polls. They talkin' 'bout the Voting Rights Act, and how this new ruling gonna make it harder to fight that BS racist redistricting.
Amir Badat from Fair Fight Action was droppin' knowledge, sayin' this ruling is gonna jack up Black political power like nothin' since Reconstruction. He ain't lyin'.
All the usual suspects were out there too: People’s Advocacy Institute, Mississippi Votes, Mississippi Poor People’s Campaign, One Voice, Fair Fight, Mississippi for a Just World, and the NAACP. They be fightin' the good fight.
Now these southern states are tryna redraw the maps so they can keep us down. Florida already pulled some shady stuff, Tennessee straight up got rid of the one district where we had a real voice. Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina, Georgia – they all plottin' too.
That jive turkey Governor Tate Reeves was gonna have a special session, but then he backed down. Probably realized we was watchin' him close.
They held the rally by the Old Capitol, where they came up with the "Mississippi Plan" back in the day to keep Black folks from votin'. Danyelle Holmes from Repairers of the Breach and the Poor People’s Campaign said it best: “We will not go back to the days of Jim Crow.” Period.
We had signs with Medgar Evers on 'em, signs sayin' “Protect our vote” and “Jim Crow Must Go.” People was singin', prayin', and marchin' through Jackson. We gotta stay woke and keep fightin', 'cause they ain't gonna give us nothin'.
