They Spent $15 Million of Our Money on a Blue Pool Just for It to Turn into a Green Swamp and Kill Ducks
Trump is claiming 'vandalism' did it, but the government's own documents say they just messed up the paint job and are trying to cover it up.

Look, you can't make this stuff up. The government just spent a whopping $14.7 million of taxpayer money to renovate the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, and right before the big 250th July 4th celebration, the whole thing looks like a hot mess. We’re talking thick green algae, paint peeling off in giant sheets, and actual dead ducks floating in the water. Instead of just admitting they did a trash job, the politicians are doing what they always do: pointing fingers and making up wild stories.
Trump hopped on Truth Social to claim that some midnight ninjas snuck onto the National Mall and sliced a massive “350-foot gash” in the pool's lining. He posted a picture of the dry pool on Wednesday, writing: “This is the hard rubber surface – No Paint – Before the Vandals cut and pulled it apart!” He promised that the Department of the Interior was going to release security footage and photos to prove there was a crime, but surprise, surprise—we still haven't seen a single video or picture. On top of that, the New York Times leaked some government documents showing there isn't even any proof that anybody vandalized anything. It looks like the paint just started coming off on its own.
Now the Democrats are trying to get their clout off the disaster. Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote a fiery letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and the acting boss of the National Park Service, Jessica Bowron. He basically called the whole project corrupt, messy, and incompetent, demanding they hand over all the paperwork. Regular folks are just shaking their heads because we all know that $15 million could have gone to fixing real problems in real neighborhoods instead of a cosmetic dye job on a tourist pool.
This whole mess started because Trump wanted to show off for the country's 250th birthday. He drained the 2,028-foot pool and had the bottom painted a custom color he called “American flag blue.” He declared it finished on June 6 and said it was going to look beautiful. But within days, the algae took over, turning the blue into a nasty green. Then, the blue lining started peeling off. On Friday, people saw a massive four-square-foot chunk of the lining just floating around.
It gets worse, though. On Sunday, visitors found a dead baby duck floating in the pool, and they found two more dead birds in a pond just 250 feet away. The Center for Biological Diversity is highly upset, calling the pool a “giant duck death trap” and asking the Fish and Wildlife Service to investigate. Tara Zuardo from the group didn't hold back, calling the project “cruel, stupid and selfish.”
