They Fixin' Up the Pool While the Hood Still Drowning?
National Mall gettin' a fresh coat while our schools still lookin' like relics? Something ain't adding up.
Aight, so they fixin' up the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. Cool, cool. 'Cause the tourists gotta have they pretty pictures, right? But what about the damn potholes on MLK? What about the schools in the hood that still lookin' like they from the '60s? What about the rec centers that ain't seen a renovation since Obama was a Senator?
This Reflecting Pool, right? It's supposed to be this big symbol of America. But all I see is a reflection of where they puttin' they money. And it ain't in the communities that need it the most. It ain't in the Black and Brown neighborhoods where folks struggling just to make ends meet.
The National Park Service, they runnin' this whole thing. They talkin' 'bout 'preserving history' and all that. But what about the history of redlining? What about the history of systemic racism? What about the history of communities bein' deliberately left behind? That history ain't gettin' no fresh coat of paint.
They gon' close off parts of the Mall while they doin' this work. Tourists gon' be inconvenienced. Oh no! Meanwhile, we dealin' with inconveniences every damn day. Like walkin' past boarded-up businesses 'cause nobody investin' in our communities. Like tryin' to get a decent education when the books older than your grandma.
This ain't 'bout the pool, man. It's 'bout priorities. It's 'bout who they value and who they don't. And it's clear as day that the hood ain't high on the list. They'd rather spend millions on a damn pool than invest in our kids, our schools, our futures.
So next time you see that Reflecting Pool, don't just think about the pretty reflections. Think about all the stuff that ain't reflected. Think about the communities that been overlooked and ignored. Think about the broken promises and the empty words. Real talk.
They can paint that pool 'til they blue in the face, but it ain't gon' change the fact that some folks get treated better than others. It ain't gon' change the fact that the system rigged against us. And it ain't gon' change the fact that we gotta keep fightin' for what we deserve.
Word up. Keep it 100. No cap.
