These London Bakeries Ain't For Us: TikTok Exposes Gentrification's Sweet Tooth
Viral videos show how fancy cafes push out the culture and jack up the prices in our hoods.

Aight, listen up. This TikTok thing goin' on in London is tellin' a real story 'bout how gentrification ain't just buildings, it's a whole vibe. Folks are postin' 'bout these bougie bakeries, like Jolene and Gail's, and it's clear who they caterin' to – and it ain't us.
It started with some chick showin' off her perfect weekend in North London, hittin' up these spots. But the comments section went OFF. Real Londoners were like, “Nah, never heard of it.” That's when you know somethin' ain't right.
Then comes Moses Combe, a real one from North London, who started this series called “Endz Department for Research.” He went to Jolene, spent £14.20 on some bougie snacks – hot chocolate, sausage roll, tiramisu. He said it was “giving Gail’s Pro Max” and “not quite Greggs.” Word. That's like sayin' it's fancy, but still overpriced.
This man started a whole crowdfunding campaign to keep this going. People are donating money so he can try bougie stuff and expose the gentrification. You can't make this stuff up.
Then you got Kobi Coker, comedian, talkin' 'bout how these spots just pop up on his block. He went to Dusty Knuckle, Jolene, Gail's, and Pret. His bill at Dusty Knuckle was £17.30! Man's said the bacon and egg hot cross bun was fire, but still, that's a whole lotta bread.
Coker gets it though. He said the problem with gentrification is that “people that made the community what it is aren’t necessarily able to participate in it.” That’s the real tea. We build these neighborhoods, make 'em cool, then can’t even afford to live there anymore.
Matthew Roberts from Jolene is just happy for the attention. Of course, he is. He makin' bank off this gentrification wave while we gettin' pushed out. He ain't worried 'bout the real impact on the community.
Gentrification ain’t new, but it’s hurtin' our communities. These bougie bakeries are just a sign of the times. They come in, raise the prices, and change the whole culture. We gotta fight back and protect what's ours.
We need more Black-owned businesses, community gardens, and affordable housing. We gotta build our own stuff and support each other. Can't let these gentrifiers take over everything.
These TikTok videos are showin' us what's really goin' on. It's time to wake up and fight for our hoods. No cap.
