The Block is Hot: Socialist Crew Takes Over NYC Primaries and Trump is Talking Mad Trash
Backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, three far-left candidates just shook up the city and secured their ticket straight to Congress.

Look, the block is officially hot in NYC politics, and the establishment just got caught sleeping. In a wild turn of events, three far-left socialist candidates backed by our self-described socialist Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, just completely swept their Democratic congressional primaries. Because these districts in New York are deep, deep blue, winning the primary means these three are basically locked in to head straight to Washington. No cap, the political landscape in the city just got turned completely upside down.
Of course, Trump had to hop on Truth Social and talk his talk. He didn't hold back, calling the progressive winners "Communists" and throwing major shade at the city. "Many Communists running in badly failing Blue States," Trump posted. "The votes seem to have them doing quite well against each other. The bad news is that history has conclusively shown that the downtrodden States that they will soon be running will ONLY GET WORSE. MAGA!" Trump posted this right after he was spotted hanging out at the White House South Lawn on June 14, 2026, watching some UFC fights while NYC was busy undergoing a political earthquake.
The biggest shockwave came from the 13th Congressional District, where Darializa Avila Chevalier pulled off a massive upset. She went head-to-head with the 71-year-old, five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat—who made history as the first former undocumented immigrant to ever get elected to Congress—and beat him by three and a half points. Avila Chevalier, a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), ran on some real revolutionary talk: abolishing ICE, stopping all deportations, and bringing in socialized healthcare for everybody.
But you already know the media had to go digging for some drama. They started dragging up Avila Chevalier's old social media posts, and let's just say she kept it 100% unfiltered back in the day. She was out here posting about the government seizing private property, calling Joe Biden a "rapist," cursing out Kamala Harris, and demanding the police be completely abolished. She even called America a "f-----g disgrace" and bragged about using the American flag as a napkin to wipe her hands. When a news anchor confronted her about those old posts on live TV, she literally got up and stormed out of the interview. But the streets didn't care—even with the drama, Bernie Sanders and Mayor Mamdani pulled up to King's Theater on June 18, 2026, to rally for her, and she took the dub.
Meanwhile, in the 7th Congressional District, Claire Valdez won her primary in an absolute landslide. Valdez is already representing the 37th District in the State Assembly, and now she’s set to take over the congressional seat being vacated by the retiring Nydia Velázquez. She’s DSA through and through, meaning the socialist movement in NYC is officially building a real power base, not just talking about it on the internet.
Over in the 10th District, Brad Lander secured his victory too. Lander is a progressive Democrat who used to be in the DSA but decided to bounce back in 2023. He left the group because he couldn't get behind how they responded to the October 7 attacks in Israel that killed 1,200 people. While Lander walked away to keep his politics a bit more mainstream, the DSA is still standing on business, calling Israel's actions in Gaza a "genocide" and keeping that struggle at the very center of their platform.
This whole sweep has the political establishment shaking in their boots. Rachel Bovard put out a warning saying this "growing movement" isn't some fringe side-show anymore; they are becoming the actual Democratic establishment. She pointed out that these candidates are pushing for some heavy institutional changes, like straight-up abolishing the Senate and the Supreme Court.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has been beefing with Trump for a minute, celebrated the primary wins as a "new chapter" for the Democrats. Whether you love it or hate it, the people have spoken, and they chose a squad that wants to tear down the old way of doing things. Now we wait and see if they actually deliver for the community when they get to DC. Keep your eyes on the block.
