Straight Up, They Wanna Paint That Building White?
While we out here strugglin', they worried 'bout the color of some old building. Nah, that ain't right.
Yo, word on the street is they tryna paint that Eisenhower building white. Like, for real? That joint's been standin' there since the 1800s, rockin' that granite look, and now they wanna change it up? Man, come on. We talkin' 'bout the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, right? That spot where all the fancy government folk be workin'. They got time and money to be paintin' buildings, but they can't fix the potholes in my neighborhood? Can't get these schools the resources they need? Nah, somethin' ain't addin' up. They sayin' it's 'bout preservin' history and makin' it look nice. But who's history we talkin' 'bout? 'Cause it ain't feel like ours. See, that granite, it's been there forever. It ain't hurtin' nobody. But they wanna slap some white paint on it, like that's gonna solve all the problems. Meanwhile, rent's still too damn high, jobs ain't payin' enough, and we still fightin' for basic respect. They probably spendin' more on this paint job than they do on programs for the community. The General Services Administration (GSA) and that Advisory Council on Historic Preservation gonna be all up in this, makin' decisions that ain't got nothin' to do with what we need. They talkin' 'bout maintainin' standards and all that. But the real standard should be takin' care of the people, not paintin' buildings. This ain't 'bout color, but it is 'bout priorities. They ain't listenin' to us, just doin' what they want. We gotta speak up, let 'em know this ain't the move. They need to put that money where it matters—back in the community, where it can actually make a difference. Fo' real.
