Socialists Clean House: Mayor Mamdani’s Crew Ousts Establishment Democrats on the Block
The young squad just ran the table in NYC's primaries, sending old-head politicians packing and putting DC on notice.

Look, the block is hot in NYC politics right now, and Tuesday night just proved it. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his whole socialist squad just pulled up and completely cleared out the old-school Democratic establishment. If you thought the old heads in suits had New York on lock, you thought wrong. The socialists didn't just win—they straight-up ran the table and sent a message that things are changing in the city.
Mayor Mamdani, who took the mayor’s office in January after shaking things up in his own primary last June, just showed everyone he’s got the real juice in these streets. He put his name behind three congressional candidates—Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier—and all three of them caught a W on Tuesday. Now they’re looking at an easy run to Congress in November because the Republicans don't stand a chance in these neighborhoods.
Mamdani wasn't keeping quiet about it either, letting everyone know this is just the start of something bigger. "I think it was an incredible night," the Mayor said, throwing it back to when he first won. "It is an incredible night and I think New Yorkers have shown that last June was not the end, it was the beginning." Basically, he’s saying the movement is alive and well, and they’re just getting started.
The wildest upset went down in the 13th District, where Adriano Espaillat got sent packing. Now, Espaillat has been representing since 2017 and is the big boss of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, but none of that establishment clout saved him. Darializa Avila Chevalier came in and completely took his spot.
Now, Avila Chevalier is definitely keeping it 100, even if it makes some people real mad. She’s called America a "f------ disgrace," wants to tear down the prisons and borders, and says Israel doesn't even exist. She even stood her ground saying that if an illegal immigrant gets locked up for a crime, they shouldn't be deported, period. Despite all the noise and controversies, the voters in her district decided she was the one they wanted representing them in DC.
Claire Valdez also walked away with a big win on Tuesday, keeping the momentum going for Mamdani’s circle. Valdez ran on that same socialist economic wave, pushing hard against ICE and making sure the working-class people in her district felt heard over the corporate noise.
Over in the 10th District, Dan Goldman got absolutely cleared out. Goldman’s been in Congress since 2022, and he was the main lawyer leading the Trump impeachment, so the media always hyped him up as the next big thing. But Brad Lander, backed by the Mayor, came through and took his crown.
The whole battle between Lander and Goldman came down to what's happening overseas. Lander went straight for Goldman’s throat, pressing him hard for voting to send military aid to Israel and refusing to call what's happening in Gaza a genocide. Goldman tried to defend his stance and talk about local issues on the block, but the voters weren't trying to hear it.
In his exit speech, Goldman looked real stressed, warning people about "antisemitic tropes and stereotypes" and saying it’s going to ruin democracy. But the real kicker? A day before the election, a coffee shop over in Brooklyn actually banned Goldman because of his pro-Israel views. You know it's real when you can't even get your morning brew on your own block.
This whole primary night was a massive L for big-time Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, who are watching the young crowd take over their home court. The NYC Democratic Socialists of America had at least a dozen candidates out here putting in work, and they’re proving they have the ground game to make things happen.
So now we’re looking at Lander, Valdez, and Avila Chevalier cruising into their general election in November. Whether you like their radical ideas or not, they’re the ones holding the keys now. New York’s political game just got flipped upside down, and we’re about to see if this new squad actually holds it down for the community or if it's just more politics as usual.
