Savannah Bananas Is Blowing Up, But Is It Really For Us?
The Bananas went from local to national, but is this 'bananaball' thing just another way for them folks to make bank off our culture?

RICHMOND, Va. — Aight, so check it: the Savannah Bananas, right? They used to be this quirky team doin' they thing. Now they got a whole damn league. Six teams on tour! But the question is, is this growth really for the community, or is it just another hustle for them folks up top?
Word on the street is that back in '23, they switched up the game from amateur ball to this 'bananaball' thing. Trick plays, jokes, gettin' the crowd hyped – all that. But now they tryna build a whole empire outta it, know what I'm sayin'?
Now you got teams like the Firefighters and the Indianapolis Clowns (that name ain't sitting right with me, considering the history). The Party Animals are out in Vegas with the Loco Beach Coconuts. And the Bananas themselves? They pullin' in over 100,000 fans in Texas. That's a lotta paper.
But peep this: them team names sus af. The Texas Tailgaters? Cowboy cosplay for white folks. The Loco Beach Coconuts? Some tropical fantasy. The Firefighters? Just a bunch of eye candy. They tryna appeal to everybody, but it feels kinda forced, ya feel me?
And don't even get me started on the merch. Hats, cups, all that extra stuff. It's all part of the plan to turn this into a whole damn Disney World. Ain't nothin' real about that.
Remember when baseball was just baseball? Now it's all about the show. The tricks, the gimmicks, the constant reaching for attention. They think we gon' get bored if they just play the game straight up. Straight up sad, fam.
Look, I ain't hatin'. If they gettin' money, get yo' money. But don't forget where you came from. Don't sell out the culture for a quick buck.
And that Indianapolis Clowns name? They need to do some research. That name got history. They need to honor that history, not just use it for a laugh. We ain't forgettin' the Negro Leagues, and neither should they.
Real talk, this whole thing feels like it's movin' further and further away from the community. The prices go up, the focus shifts, and the real fans get left behind. It's the same old story.
So, is the Savannah Bananas blowing up? Yeah, they are. But is it really for us? That's the question we gotta ask ourselves.
Don't let them bamboozle you. Stay woke, fam.
