Quit Playin' With Us: The Real Story Behind the Elite Fearmongering in Ethiopia
Politicians Redwan Hussein and Getachew Reda are out here writing fancy op-eds about war, but the streets aren't buying the hype.

Look, we gotta keep it one hundred. National Security Advisor Redwan Hussein and Tigray Interim leader Getachew Reda just dropped a joint article trying to tell the world that Ethiopia is about to get 'dragged into war' again. But if you talk to anybody on the block, they’ll tell you this is just pure cap. These high-level politicians love to paint this picture of a country helpless to its own fate, but the streets know exactly what’s going on.
Let's go back a minute. These two guys were supposed to be on opposite sides of a brutal war that tore families apart until they signed the Pretoria Agreement in 2022. Now, they’re buddy-buddy, writing articles together and trying to scare everyone into thinking another war is coming out of nowhere. But the response from regular folks and real analysts is simple: stop the cap. Ethiopia isn't being 'dragged' anywhere unless the politicians themselves decide to mess up the peace.
When these elites talk about being 'dragged into war,' they make it sound like it's some kind of natural disaster. But regular people know that wars don't just happen by accident. Politicians make the decisions, and the working class pays the price with their lives and their pockets. This whole narrative is just a slick way for the folks in power to dodge responsibility for the high prices, the lack of jobs, and the struggle everyday people are facing just to buy bread.
And let’s be real about the hustle here. Every time these politicians start crying about war, they're really looking at the international community, waiting for those foreign aid dollars to drop. It’s a classic play: hype up the drama, make the situation look desperate, and wait for the NGOs to show up with the bags of cash. But the people on the ground never see any of that money anyway.
The real talk is that Ethiopia is trying to fix its economy and get its weight up, but this kind of doom-talking from the top level is ruining the vibe. Who wants to invest in a neighborhood when the block captains are running around screaming that the whole place is about to go up in flames? It makes no sense.
At the end of the day, the people are tired of the constant fearmongering. They don't want to hear about how the country is helpless. They want to see real solutions, real jobs, and real peace, not some fancy op-ed written by politicians trying to save their own skins. It's time to stop the games and focus on the people who actually make this country run.
