Power to the People? Nah, Power to the Corporations: Utilities Playin' Dirty
They sayin' they lookin' out for you, but these energy companies just tryna keep stackin' bread while the bills keep climbin'.

Aight, listen up, fam. 'Cause this ain't no joke. We talkin' 'bout power – the kinda that keeps the lights on, the AC runnin', and the Netflix flowin'. But who really got that power? Not us, that's for damn sure.
See, these utility companies, they been gettin' away with highway robbery for too long. Bills high as giraffe neck, power go out when it rain a lil' bit, and they ain't doin' nothin' 'bout clean energy. Meanwhile, they pockets fat, lookin' like they swallowed a whole damn watermelon.
Now, some cities gettin' smart, right? Ann Arbor, San Diego, St. Pete – they thinkin' 'bout takin' back the power. Municipalizin' the grid, they call it. Basically, the city runnin' the electric company, not some greedy corporation. Lower rates, better service, real accountability – the whole nine.
But these companies ain't goin' down without a fight. They pullin' all kinda sneaky sh*t. Turns out they been bankrollin' fake-ass 'grassroots' groups to stop the public power movement. Frontin' like they just concerned citizens, but really they just puppets on a corporate string.
Check this: in Ann Arbor, there's this group called the Ann Arbor Responsible Energy Coalition (A2rec). Sound like a buncha regular folks, right? Nah, deadass their mailing address is the DTE Energy headquarters. DTE the same folks that got the highest rates round here.
And guess where A2rec gettin' their money from? DTE, contractors, the utility lobby – almost $2 million. They even helped block public power in Maine last year. This ain't just local, this is a whole conspiracy against the people. Straight up.
Sean Higgins from Ann Arbor for Public Power (A2P2) said it best: “The public power movement is a direct threat to their profits.” It ain't 'bout servin' the community, it's 'bout keepin' that money flowin'. They be so cap.
And they playin' dirty too. In St. Pete, they was recruitin' canvassers from plasma donation centers. Talk about preying on the desperate. That's colder than a polar bear's toenails.
DTE put out a statement sayin' they workin' on the grid, but they ain't answer nothin' 'bout A2rec. They just tryna gaslight the whole city. This ain't just politics, this is economic warfare on the low income communities.
Cities got the right to take over the grid, but it ain't easy. These companies fight every step of the way. They got lawyers, lobbyists, and all kinda dirty tricks. But we gotta stay woke and fight back. We gotta stand up for our communities and demand a fair price for energy.
