No Cap: Colorado Mom Charged with Murder After Supplying Teen Daughter with Liquor Until She Died
Gretchen Leanne Ryan, 55, bought her 16-year-old daughter booze daily, hiding 173 empty bottles in her room while the father lived in the basement.

This story right here is pure sickness. A Colorado mother named Gretchen Leanne Ryan, 55, is facing a second-degree murder charge in Arvada, and when you hear the details, you’ll see why people are completely disgusted. Prosecutors say she literally helped her own 16-year-old daughter, Grace Elizabeth Ryan, drink herself to death, acting like a plug for liquor instead of being a real mother.
On March 9, 2026, police got a call about an unresponsive girl at the family's Arvada home. When they showed up, Grace was already gone. The autopsy report showed she had an abnormally fatty liver, which is crazy for a 16-year-old, showing she had been heavy drinking for a long time. The official cause of death was aspiration pneumonia brought on by chronic alcohol use. When detectives searched her bedroom, they found 173 empty bottles of vodka and hard liquor hidden under her bed and inside her closet.
Instead of protecting her child, this mother was smoking weed and drinking heavy with her. Text messages from September 2025 show they were talking about buying alcohol almost every single day. The mom was setting up regular alcohol deliveries to the house, acting like a friend instead of a parent.
What makes it even crazier is how they were living. The teen's father lived in the basement of the exact same house. But the DA says the mother was actively plotting and taking steps to hide the daughter's drinking from him, keeping the whole operation running upstairs while the dad was completely in the dark downstairs.
As the weeks went on, the teenager’s body started completely breaking down from the poison. The text messages between the mother and daughter describe some horrific stuff: the girl was vomiting blood, she couldn't eat, she couldn't walk, and she was literally having to wear diapers because she lost control of her bladder. The girl even texted her mother saying she was terrified she was going to die. But the mom kept ordering the bottles anyway, never getting her daughter any medical help.
The system also completely lost track of this girl. Back in April 2025, they took her out of regular high school to do online classes. By the time she died in March 2026, she had only finished one semester of the ninth grade. She didn't have no friends, didn't do no activities, and hadn't left the house in months. She was totally isolated, locked in a room with 173 bottles of liquor and a mother who was feeding her addiction.
This is a major tragedy that shows what happens when the people who are supposed to protect you are the ones handing you the poison. National stats show that alcohol-related deaths have more than doubled lately, especially among women, and this case shows the absolute worst-case scenario of that trend.
Gretchen Leanne Ryan is now locked up and facing second-degree murder charges. The streets know that a mother's job is to protect her kids at all costs, but this woman did the exact opposite, and now she’s got to face the music in court.
