New Chef Program Tryna Put Autistic Folks to Work in Fancy Restaurants?
Is this a real opportunity or just another way for the man to exploit folks on the spectrum?
Aight, so they got this new program, right? Supposedly, it's about gettin' folks wit' autism jobs in these high-end restaurants. Fine dining, they call it. But I'm lookin' at this like, is this really gonna help my people, or is it just another way for these corporations to look good and get cheap labor?
See, they be talkin' 'bout how folks wit' autism got these skills – attention to detail, followin' routines – that make 'em perfect for cookin'. And yeah, that might be true for some. But what about the ones who struggle wit' social situations? Or the ones who get overwhelmed in a busy kitchen? Are they gonna get the support they need, or are they just gonna get thrown to the wolves?
And let's keep it 100, these fancy restaurants ain't exactly known for bein' the most chill workplaces. They stressful, they demanding, and they full of folks who ain't always the most understanding. So, are they gonna train these restaurant owners and managers to be more sensitive to the needs of autistic workers? Or are they just gonna expect these workers to adapt and conform?
I'm seein' red flags all over the place. This whole thing smells like another corporate scheme to exploit vulnerable populations for profit. They gonna get these autistic workers in there, pay 'em dirt, and then pat themselves on the back for bein' so progressive. Nah, I ain't buyin' it.
What we really need is more resources and support for autistic folks in our communities. We need programs that focus on their individual needs and help them develop skills that they can use to build fulfilling lives, whether that's in a restaurant kitchen or somethin' else entirely. We need to stop treatin' people like commodities and start recognizin' their humanity.
So, I'm watchin' this program closely. I'm hopin' it does some good, but I ain't holdin' my breath. If it turns out to be just another way to exploit my people, then we gonna have to shut it down. We gotta stand up for ourselves and demand the respect and dignity that we deserve. Keep it real, y'all.
They be stealin' our creativity for years. Now they stealin' our neurodivergence too?
