NatWest Trippin': Bank Backtracks on Climate Promises, But Who Really Gon' Pay?
NatWest playin' games with the planet, but it's the communities already strugglin' that's gon' feel the heat first.

Yo, check it. NatWest, that bank that be frontin' like they care 'bout the planet, is 'bout to get called out at their lil' AGM. Turns out they been sneaky, backpedalin' on them climate promises they made, and folks ain't havin' it. Tuesday in Edinburgh, it's gonna be a whole showdown.
ShareAction and other activists is on they necks, tellin' shareholders to vote against the bank's chair, Rick Haythornthwaite. They sayin' he gotta be held accountable for waterin' down the rules on lendin' to oil and gas, and ditchin' them goals to cut pollution. Basically, they sayin' NatWest is sellin' out the Earth for some quick cash.
These activist groups, plus investors holdin' like $1.4 trillion, they comin' correct with letters demandin' a meetin' with the bank to get they act right. The Church of England and other big money players is signin' on, so you know it's real.
On top of that, 70 climate scientists and experts is droppin' a letter too, tellin' NatWest to quit playin' and get back on track. They sayin' the bank is makin' it easier for fossil fuels to keep wreckin' the planet. Straight up disrespect.
What exactly did NatWest do? They stopped sayin' they wouldn't lend to oil and gas companies without a plan to go green or that hide they pollution numbers. They also ain't gonna block loans to companies diggin' for oil and gas outside the UK no more, and they scrapped targets for heavy polluters like aluminum and steel. Basically, they openin' the floodgates for more climate damage.
Jeanne Martin from ShareAction ain't holdin' back. She sayin' NatWest is losin' trust by backin' out on they word. She sayin' this is gonna make the climate crisis even worse, hurt folks' health, homes, and livelihoods, and mess up the whole economy. Real talk.
NatWest try to act like they still on a mission to cut pollution by half by 2019 and reach zero emissions by 2050, but nobody buyin' that BS. They sayin' they changin' they approach to fit the times and help they customers, but it sound like they helpin' they pockets more than anythin' else.
The real deal is, banks like NatWest always gonna put profit over people and the planet. They cool with destroyin' communities as long as they gettin' paid. But it's the same communities that gon' get flooded or fried first when climate change hit hard.
