Manchester University Pullin' a Power Move: Hookin' Up Undergrads with Work, But Is It Really 'Bout Us?
They sayin' all students gettin' placements, but will it actually help folks from the hood break outta the struggle?

Aight, so check it: Manchester University out here claimin' they 'bout to bless every undergrad with a work placement. Word on the street is, this supposed to be the first time a big-time school like that doin' somethin' like this. They sayin' it's 'bout givin' students that 'real-world experience,' from the bougie classics majors to the future engineers. But is this really 'bout liftin' up the community, or just another way for the system to keep us down?
Vice-Chancellor Duncan Ivison tryna tell us nobody should graduate just studyin' books for three years. He sayin' every student deserve a shot to put they knowledge to use – internship, placement, joint project, whatever. He preachin' like this the gospel, but we gotta ask: who gon' benefit the most from this?
The real deal is, grads out here strugglin' to find work, drowned in debt, endin' up servin' fries or foldin' clothes. They told us college was the ticket, but now we stuck with degrees and no bread. They sellin' us dreams, but we wakin' up to a nightmare.
Nick Hillman from the Higher Education Policy Institute, he soundin' kinda woke, sayin' this might fix the rep of them old schools bein' too book-smart. But he also droppin' truth bombs, sayin' it's gonna be hard to pull off with 32,000 students. He right, man. How they gon' find enough gigs for everybody? And what kinda gigs we talkin' 'bout? Are they gon' be payin' livable wages, or just exploitin' students for cheap labor?
Hillman also pointin' out that most students already workin' to survive, hustlin' to pay rent and eat. So, when they gon' have time for these extra placements? It's like they forgettin' we already grindin' just to stay afloat.
Vivienne Stern from Universities UK, she sayin' all the right things 'bout preparin' grads for the job market. But we heard that song and dance before. Talk is cheap. We need action. We need to see real opportunities for folks from the hood to get ahead.
Libby Hackett from the Russell Group, she talkin' 'bout graduates needin' skills and resilience. But we already got resilience, man. We built different. We been fightin' the system since day one. What we need is access. We need a fair shot.
So, Manchester University can talk the talk, but we watchin' to see if they walk the walk. Are they gon' create real opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds? Are they gon' ensure that these placements lead to actual jobs? Or is this just another empty promise designed to make them look good? Only time will tell. But one thing for sure: we ain't holdin' our breath. We gon' keep hustlin', keep grindin', and keep fightin' for what's ours. No cap.
