Mamdani Still On Dat 'Bout ICE After Protest For Lil Bro Gettin' Booked
NYC Mayor Mamdani ain't backin' down on gettin' rid of ICE after folks hit the streets 'cause some Nigerian dude got snatched up by the feds and ended up in the ER.

Aight, so check it. This whole situation is straight outta control. Mayor Mamdani still on that tip 'bout abolishin' ICE after a protest popped off outside Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn. Word is, some Nigerian cat named Chidozie Wilson Okeke got booked by the feds, and ended up needin' a check-up at the hospital. Now, the streets is talkin', and folks is heated.
See, Okeke overstayed his visa, right? He was supposed to be ghost, but he was still chillin' in the States. DHS say he tried to get physical with the ICE agents when they tried to cuff him. They claim he was tryna run 'em over with his whip. But the people in the streets see this differently. They say ICE be wildin' out, treatin' immigrants like they ain't human.
Mamdani, he been speakin' out against ICE for a minute now. He basically said the NYPD ain't gonna be helpin' ICE with their raids. "I've made it very clear that our laws leave no room for interpretation: our NYPD will not participate in civil immigration enforcement," Mamdani said. "And I've also been very clear about my views on ICE raids as a whole. I think they are cruel." He's basically sayin', 'We ain't got nothin' to do with that.'
Now, this Okeke dude, DHS claim he was a problem from jump. They say he didn't wanna get outta his car, and tried to throw hands (or elbows) with the agents. They saying they used the minimum force necessary. That's what they always say, though. After the arrest, they took him to the hospital to make sure he was straight. But when he was inside, DHS said he was buggin' out, throwin' himself on the floor and yellin'. Still, he got cleared by the doctors.
While all this was goin' down, the community came out to show support. They were hollerin' outside the hospital, makin' noise, lettin' ICE know they ain't wit' it. DHS claims that the protesters damaged some ICE vehicles and roughed up some agents. Six of them got arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructin' governmental administration. Five of them also got charged with resistin' arrest. It's a mess, for real.
Mamdani ain't trippin' off the backlash, though. He's stickin' to his guns about abolishin' ICE. He believes that ICE is basically terrorizing immigrant communities, tearing families apart, and all that. A lot of folks agree with him, but others think ICE is just doin' their job, keepin' the country safe. This is bigger than just one arrest; it's about the whole system. Some people think that they should be allowed to make mistakes.
The whole situation shows the tension in the city. People on different sides of the issue, and ain't nobody backin' down. The people that got arrested and the Nigerian dude are going to go through the system. Mamdani still gonna be fightin', and we all see how it shakes out. Real talk.
