LA Phil Done Hired Another One: What This Mean for the Hood?
They done switched up the conductor again, but will this cat bring any real change to the community?

Aight, so the LA Phil done went and got themselves a new head honcho, this dude Daniel Harding. He from across the pond, Britain and all that. Replaces Dudamel, who’s headin' to New York. Word on the street is, Dudamel was cool, did some work with the youth, but is this Harding dude gonna keep it real or just be another suit?
LA Phil always talkin' 'bout bringin' in new folks, but how many brothas and sistas you see up in that concert hall? Tickets cost more than a pair of J's, so who they really caterin' to? This Harding dude better not just be playin' for the rich folks downtown. We need somethin' for the people, for the community.
They say Harding gonna be in charge of the whole shebang, Disney Hall, Hollywood Bowl, the whole nine yards. He talkin' 'bout Rachmaninoff and all that highfalutin stuff. Cool, but can he bring some of that flavor to the hood? Can he get some local artists on the stage? Can he make classical music somethin' we can vibe with?
Dudamel did his thing with YOLA, the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. He brought music to the kids who ain't got nothin'. That's real. Harding gotta keep that goin'. He gotta show love to the youngins, give 'em a chance to shine. Otherwise, it's just another empty promise from the big shots downtown.
Kim Noltemy, the president of the Phil, talkin' 'bout how Harding got the 'passion' to engage with new audiences. Bet. Let's see that passion in action. Let's see some real outreach, some free concerts in the park, some workshops for the kids in the hood. Actions speak louder than words, ya dig?
They been commissionin' music from all types of composers since way back, but how many Black composers they really puttin' on? How many Latinx artists gettin' that shine? It's time to break down these walls and let some fresh talent in. The LA music scene is poppin', they need to tap into that.
Harding sayin' all the right things about inheritin' this legacy. But legacies ain't worth nothin' if they ain't shared with everybody. He gotta make sure the LA Phil ain't just for the privileged few. It's gotta be for the whole city, for all the people, regardless of where they come from.
At the end of the day, it's all about keepin' it real. This Harding dude gotta come correct. He gotta show the community some love. He gotta prove that he ain't just another face in the crowd. We watchin', we waitin', and we hopin' he can bring some real change to the LA Phil and to the hood. No cap.
