Grayson Perry Musical? Betta Check the Fine Print, Fam
Turner Prize winner's life story gettin' the Broadway treatment, but is it really for us?

Aight, so they makin' a musical 'bout Grayson Perry, the dude wit' the dresses and the pots. Word on the street is it's gon' be 'outrageous.' Now, I ain't hatin' on nobody makin' they dreams come true, but we gotta keep it 100 on how these kinda stories get told.
They sayin' it's 'bout identity and self-acceptance and all that. Cool. But is it REALLY 'bout identity for US? Or is it just another way for rich folks to pat theyselves on the back for bein' 'different'? Cuz lemme tell you, bein' Black in America is a whole different kind of 'different' than wearin' a frock.
This cat's got a six-foot teddy bear in the show. A TEDDY BEAR. That's supposed to be givin' life advice. I'm tryna get my rent paid and keep the lights on, and they talkin' 'bout teddy bear therapy. Man, please.
Perry sayin' it's 'bout class anxiety' and 'questionable fashion choices.' I'm hearin' him, but where's the real talk 'bout the struggle? Where's the shout-out to the everyday folks hustlin' just to survive? Ain't nothin' funny 'bout missin' a meal or losin' yo' crib.
The dude who did the Jerry Springer opera doin' the music? Okay, that's kinda wild. But I'm still side-eyein' the whole thing. They gon' be performin' it in East London, where he used to have a studio. Bet that gentrified the whole damn neighborhood, takin' away opportunities from the real people who stay down.
They sayin' it's gon' be an 'irreverent odyssey' through marital problems and career fails. But what 'bout the real struggles? What 'bout the system that's designed to keep us down? Is that gon' be on stage, or is it just gonna be another feel-good story for the privileged?
It's all 'bout embracin' who you are, they say. But what if who you are ain't what they wanna see? What if who you are don't fit they narrative? We gotta stay woke and make sure our stories get told the right way. Fo' real.
Don't get me wrong, I ain't tryna shut nobody down. But we gotta be critical 'bout what we consume. Make sure this ain't just another way for the Man to profit off our struggles. Keep it real, y'all.
