Gov'ment Messin' Up the Bag for Young Apprentices, Man
These welfare rules be straight-up robbin' families when kids tryna level up with a trade.

Aight, listen up, fam. This ain't no joke. The system's rigged, and they playin' us once again. See, they got this crazy rule in the UK where if a 16-year-old tryna get that bread through an apprenticeship, they cut the family's benefits – like, up to £340 a week! Straight up takin' money out the pockets of folks already struggling.
They callin' it a 'apprenticeship penalty,' but it's really a poverty trap. They sayin' the apprentice is 'independent' now, so the parents don't need the help no more. But come on, a 16-year-old ain't independent, especially when they barely makin' enough to cover bus fare. It’s a whole dub move.
Now, the advisers tellin' the ministers this is messed up, like we didn't already know. Parents gotta tell they kids, 'Yo, either quit the apprenticeship or find somewhere else to lay your head.' That's cold, man. And these young Gs gotta decide whether to chase their dreams or keep their family afloat. No cap, this is reality for too many of us.
But peep this: if the kid stays in school, even workin' a lil' part-time gig, the family still gets the benefits. So, they pushin' education over trade skills. They tryna keep us in debt, not buildin' our own futures. Real talk, this system ain't designed for us to win.
This lady from Action for Children, Lucy Schonegevel, she said it right: 'No young person should have to choose between their future and their family’s ability to put food on the table.' But the gov'ment ain't listenin'. They claimin' the apprenticeship money covers the loss, but that's BS. These young apprentices makin' like £250 a week; ain't no way they gonna give all that to their parents. It ain't realistic, fam.
And it hits single parents the hardest, especially if they got kids with disabilities. They losin' almost £340 a week, yo! That's rent money, food money, bills money. They straight up cripplin' these families. Then they wonder why youth joblessness is at a decade high? This is why! The DWP is the problem.
The Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) said it best: this whole thing distorts poorer children’s career decisions. They force us to decide between doing what’s right for our futures and doing what’s affordable for our families. That's not a choice anyone should have to make. They want to take us out of the game early, man.
Them 2013 laws requiring 16-year-olds to be in education or training can’t even work if young apprentices and their families is gettin’ played like this. These penalties cripple their opportunities to get ahead.
