Fo' Real? Eliot Engel, Old Head Congressman From The Bronx, Done Passed Away at 79
That fool stayed in office 16 terms, then got caught slippin' and lost his spot. Real talk.
Yo, word is Eliot Engel, that dude who repped the Bronx in Congress for mad long, kicked the bucket. 79 years old, man. That's a run. But let's keep it 100, this ain't no sob story. This the same cat who was in office for sixteen terms, basically livin' off the system. Sixteen terms! That's longer than most of y'all been alive.
He got in the game back in '88, beat out some other politician. Real power move back then, I guess. Then he climbed the ladder, ended up chairin' the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Big deal, right? But how much of that foreign policy stuff actually helped the people in the Bronx, ya know? That’s the real question.
See, folks in the hood, they ain't worried 'bout all that overseas drama when they can't even pay the rent. They need jobs, better schools, healthcare. Was Engel really puttin' in work for his community, or was he just politickin' with the big boys in D.C.?
And then came the downfall. Remember when he got caught on camera sayin' some slick stuff? Somethin' 'bout how he only cared if he got elected? Straight up truth serum right there. That's when you know these politicians ain't for the people, they for themselves. That mess cost him his seat in 2020. Karma's a real thing, ya dig?
This just goes to show you, no matter how long you been in the game, you gotta stay real. Can't get too comfortable, can't forget where you came from. Engel lost touch with the streets, and the streets showed him the door.
So, yeah, he passed away. Rest in peace and all that. But let's not act like he was some kinda saint. He was a politician, and like most of 'em, he was lookin' out for number one. This a reminder that these politicians, they ain't always lookin' out for the community. Gotta keep 'em in check, hold 'em accountable. If not, they gonna run wild. Word is bond.
Now, we need somebody who gon' put the hood first. Somebody who knows what it's like to struggle, somebody who ain't afraid to speak truth to power. That's the kind of representation the Bronx deserves. We gotta keep pushing, keep organizing, and keep fightin' for what's right. For real. No cap.
