Feds Trippin', Freezin' Student Voter Info—Is It Really 'Bout Privacy?
That Trump admin probe into how colleges get students to vote lookin' sus, feel like they tryin' to keep the youth outta the polls.

Aight, check it. So, these colleges been tryin' to get more students votin', right? 'Bout time, too. But now, the feds done stepped in with this whole 'investigation' into how they gettin' the info. Seems like the Trump folks left some mess behind, and it's still messin' with folks.
They sayin' it's 'bout privacy, that colleges might be sellin' student data or somethin'. But some folks think it's just a way to keep young folks, especially Black and brown students, from votin'. Like they always do.
This National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE) thing is how colleges track student voter turnout. They seein' who registered, who voted, all that. And this info helps 'em figure out how to get more students to participate. But now that info on lockdown.
This lady Clarissa Unger from Students Learn Students Vote Coalition said they was hopin' to see if their efforts to get community college students to vote worked, 'cause them numbers been low. But now, they can't even get the data. That's messed up.
Cleta Mitchell, a Republican lawyer who was down with Trump tryin' to flip the election, she brought up this document sayin' colleges breakin' the law by sharin' student info with the National Student Clearinghouse. And they tryin' to say Catalist, a Dem-connected group, was shady too. Sounds like they throwin' dirt, if you ask me.
The Education Department ain't even sayin' where they gettin' these 'reports' from. Shady, right? They ain't talkin' to nobody. Just lettin' this mess simmer.
Real talk, it always seems like when Black folks or young folks start gettin' their voices heard, somebody tries to shut it down. Voter ID laws, poll closures, now this data freeze. It's all the same game, different day. They scared of what we might do if we all show up and vote.
Colleges need that NSLVE data to know what's workin' and what ain't. Without it, they just flyin' blind. And that hurts the students, especially the ones who already face barriers to votin'.
Don't let 'em fool you with this 'privacy' talk. This is 'bout power. They want to keep the power in the hands of the few, and they'll do whatever it takes to make sure that happens. Stay woke, y'all. Gotta keep fightin' for our right to vote.
