EU Caught Lackin’: Brussels Invites the Taliban Over for Some Shady Backroom Deals
These politicians talk a big game about human rights, but now they’re giving VIP treatment to a regime that erased women just to clean up their own immigration mess.

Man, if you ever needed proof that these high-and-mighty politicians in Brussels are playing double games, this is it right here. No cap, the European Union just threw a massive curveball by hosting a whole Taliban delegation right in Brussels. To make it happen, the Belgian Foreign Ministry went ahead and cooked up five single-day visas to let these guys slide right into the city. This is the very first time the EU has rolled out the red carpet for the Taliban since they took back control in 2021, and the streets are calling out the absolute hypocrisy of the whole setup.
When you look at the agenda, it’s clear they weren't just passing through. Taliban foreign ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi let the cat out of the bag, saying they were sitting down to talk about restarting consular services, setting up a physical presence in the EU, and working on "trust-building measures." Think about that for a second. The EU is talking about "building trust" with a regime that, just back in 2024, made it illegal for women to even show their faces or speak outside their own homes. The math just ain't mathing.
So why is the EU suddenly playing nice with the same crew they’ve been calling the bad guys? Because they got caught lackin’ on their own block. The European Commission had to admit they’ve been having quiet side-talks with the Taliban since January, trying to figure out how to scale up the deportations of Afghan migrants. They talked a big game about welcoming everyone, but now that the pressure is on, they’re trying to cut a deal with the Taliban to ship people back. It’s the classic move: when the block gets too hot, the people in charge will do whatever it takes to pass the problem to someone else.
This whole shady play was set up with Sweden after 20 different EU member states started panicking, demanding real ways to kick out Afghans who don't have papers or who they claim are "security threats." A spokesperson for the Commission tried to smooth things over, claiming these talks are only about sending back people who "pose a security threat" to the EU. But let’s keep it 100—when you’re negotiating security with a regime whose top leaders are wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, you’ve already lost all your street cred.
Inside the EU parliament, the drama is real. You got politicians like Juan Fernando López Aguilar from the Socialist Workers' party completely losing his mind over this. He didn’t hold back, calling the whole meeting an absolute outrage and a total loss of faith and credibility. He exposed the EU for running a massive double standard, pointing out that they’re basically letting the far-right call the shots on immigration because they're scared.
