Dems Showin' Up at Sharpton's Spot: Midterm Hustle or 2028 Play?
Politicians gather at NAN convention, but what's really goin' on? Is it 'bout the community or just tryna get votes?

Aight, so peep this: all these big-shot Democrats rolled through NYC this week for the National Action Network (NAN) convention, hosted by Rev. Al Sharpton. They talkin' 'bout the midterms, but we see you eyein' that 2028 presidential bid, know what I'm sayin'? Is this 'bout helpin' the community, or just another photo op?
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker was up there preachin' 'bout votin'. "Now more than ever, it’s on all of us to stand up for the future of our country, doing some public service – at a minimum, everybody has to go vote in this coming election," he said. Word. But what he gonna do 'bout the prices at the gas station? What he gonna do 'bout these jobs that don't pay enough to survive? Talk is cheap, fam.
The NAN convention, runnin' from Wednesday to Saturday, had all sorts of cats showin' up: Governors Wes Moore from Maryland, Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania, Representative Ro Khanna from California, and Senator Ruben Gallego from Arizona. Heard Pete Buttigieg, Andy Beshear, Mark Kelly, Jim Clyburn, and even Kamala Harris supposed to pull up later. But where was AOC and Newsom? Maybe they ain't tryna share the spotlight, ya feel me?
Basil Smikle Jr. talkin' 'bout how this convention is important for Black folks and activist crews. “No candidate will be successful in a primary or win a general without Black voters,” he said. Facts. But these politicians gotta do more than just show up and say the right things. They gotta put in work and deliver for the community.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore was talkin' 'bout the war in Iran, sayin' it's "personal" 'cause he a veteran. He pointin' out how our tax money is goin' to this war while gas prices and grocery bills goin' up. "These are our taxpayer dollars that are being used to do this. We are now watching how our gas prices continue to skyrocket, energy prices continue to skyrocket, groceries are more expensive, and we are doing this foreign war that none of us asked for, but it’s being done in our name.” That's real, but what's the solution, my guy?
Moore questioned the point of the war, and what the exit strategy is. Straight up, what are we really gettin' outta this?
The NAN convention supposed to be a spot where real issues get addressed, but sometimes it just feel like a bunch of politicians tryin' to score points. We need action, not just empty promises. We need jobs, affordable housing, and justice for all, not just the wealthy few.
