DeepMind Workers Tryna Unionize, Fo Real? Over AI Goin' to War?
Tech bros in London gettin' woke, worried 'bout where they code endin' up, talkin' drones and Gaza.

Aight, so check it: Google DeepMind, that AI lab run by Google, is gettin' some heat from its own workers, straight up. See, these folks over in London, the ones writin' all that fancy code, they ain't feelin' too good 'bout where that tech's headin'. We talkin' US military, we talkin' Israeli government – basically, weapons and surveillance type sh*t.
Word is, a couple hunnid of 'em voted to unionize. Yeah, unionize! These ain't ya average union folk either, we talkin' techies. But they fed up. They been signin' petitions, raisin' concerns 'bout how they AI gettin' used. See, DeepMind used to have this promise, like, they wouldn't let they tech be used for nothin' messed up, like harm or breakin' international law. But they flipped the script in '25, dropped that promise like a bad habit.
Now folks gettin' tight. Especially 'bout Google helpin' the Israeli government. We talkin' Gaza conflict, drone technology, all that heavy stuff. Some Israeli official even said Google's cloud computin' was makin' "phenomenal things" happen in combat. So these DeepMind workers, they lookin' at they code, thinkin', "Damn, is this sh*t really helpin' people get hurt?"
And it ain't just whispers in the breakroom. This one AI researcher, he Palestinian, got fired after he spoke up 'bout all this Israel business. He say he got canned unfairly, and he lawyered up, but Google sayin' his story ain't the truth. Either way, it showin' how serious things gettin'.
Now, Google DeepMind sayin' they respectin' they workers right to unionize, but they ain't makin' it easy. They ain't voluntarily recognizin' the union, but they willin' to talk. They gonna meet with the Communications Workers Union (CWU) and Unite at some place called Acas. Sounds like a whole lotta talkin' before any real changes happen.
A CWU source sayin' Google movin' 'cause they gotta address the real issues on the floor. Like, workers worried 'bout gettin' forced into doin' contracts that go against they conscience. We talkin' drone tech, Israel, US military – all that. This a step forward, they sayin', Google can't just shut this down.
Look, at the end of the day, this 'bout power. Tech companies got mad power, and they makin' mad decisions that affect everybody. These DeepMind workers tryin' to take some of that power back, tryin' to make sure they work ain't just feedin' the war machine. It's a start, but we gotta see if this union thing can actually make a difference, or if it's just another empty promise from the corporations.
