BCU Trippin': Black Studies Program Getting Shut Down, Fo Real?
University sayin' low enrollment, but we know the deal: they ain't tryna invest in Black futures.

Aight, so check it: Birmingham City University pullin' some shady sh*t. They 'bout to axe the Black studies MA program, right after they canned the undergrad joint back in '24. Word on the street is, they claimin' it's 'cause nobody signin' up, but that's cap.
More than a hundred heads—professors, writers, activists—done signed a letter tellin' BCU they dead wrong. They sayin' this ain't just about one program, it's about erasn Black folks from higher education altogether. Like, they straight up tryna silence us.
Professor Kehinde Andrews, the OG behind the Black studies movement at BCU, might be losin' his job too. He sayin' the university ain't give the MA program a chance to even get off the ground before they decided to shut it down. Plus, they ain't even do no impact assessment to see how this gon' affect Black students and staff. That's some straight up disrespect.
Andrews droppin' truth bombs, sayin' this ain't just about money. He sayin' it's a whole vibe of folks tryna erase Black intellectualism. He pointin' out how another professor, Hakim Adi, got laid off from his African history program too. This ain't no coincidence, fam.
Professor Kalwant Bhopal from Birmingham University backin' him up, sayin' the closure of the MA program just means they tryna push Eurocentric knowledge and keep Black folks from speakin' up 'bout racism in college. They tryna keep the power in white hands, plain and simple.
Shout out to journalist Yomi Adegoke, artist Akala, and MP Marsha de Cordova for speakin' out too. They know what's up. This ain't just about some program, it's about our future. They tryna limit our knowledge, limit our access, and ultimately, limit our power.
The university tryna play it cool, sayin' they just doin' what they gotta do 'cause of low enrollment. But we ain't buyin' it. They need to put some respek on Black studies and invest in our education. This ain't no game.
This ain't just about BCU either. This is happenin' all over. Universities tryna cut corners and they always targetin' Black programs first. We gotta stay woke and keep fightin' for our right to learn and grow. We gotta keep buildin' our own institutions and supportin' each other. They ain't gonna do it for us. Know what I'm sayin'?
